Welcome to your little retreat in the gorgeous Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, 1hr south of Melbourne city, voted most livable city for 7 consecutive years. In this southern wine region and beachy 'part' of Victoria, our tranquil Parisian/Provence inspired oasis, offered by the loveliest world traveling Australian hosts, Carole and John Fitzgerald, lives in the mountainous 'Arthurs Seat' a easy drive to the cosmopolitan local shops in Rye and Sorrento and their beaches; and boasts incredible views over the Peninsula.

B&B Carole is the ultimate country getaway offering natural living combined with two stylish self contained B&B dwellings with all the thoughtful trimmings and luxuries you could think of (spa jacuzzi bathtubs, fire places) - there is a stone cottage B&B Studio and the Barn, a 2 level stone and timber retreat; both of which are nestled in the beautiful garden surrounds.

About the Area:

Petite B&B Carole resides in the highest point on the Mornington Peninsula 'Arthurs Seat', where on clear days, the vistas provide spectacular views across Port Phillip bay

There is so much to see & do in the area; such as browsing for antiques in nearby Tyabb 'Packing House' antique markets; taste testing cheeses and other local treats such as Red Hill Quince Paste and cheeses at Main Ridge dairy, the best coffee and supermarket at Cellar and Pantry in Red Hill, and the incredible Lavender ice cream at the Ashcromb Maze and Lavendar gardens. You can enjoy crafts at local markets and craft classes at local shops.

There is the MUST-DO incredible Peninsula Hot Springs, hikes through the national parks which offer more spectacular views & waterfalls, wildflowers & native animals and the Cape Shcank walk is a beautiful coast walk to the lighthouse. There are a number of golf courses, numerous beaches, scenic walking tracks, numerous wineries (over 150 in the area) and their gastronomic tapas bars and restaurant, breweries, there is swimming with dolphins, Ferry rides to Philip Island where the famous penguins are and in general exploring the suburbs such as the upscale Portsea with its million dollar homes (do the Millionaires walk and peak in peoples windows).

There are also wonderful activities for children such as the Adventure garden, tree surfing at the enchanted adventure maze and craft weekends at Treehouse textiles as well as all the usual beach activities.

Getting to B&B Carole:

B&B Carole is a very easy 1-2hr drive (traffic depending) from Melbourne on the Napean Highway or the Mornington Peninsula freeway M3.

The Studio Retreat:

The Studio B&B is a romantic self-contained stone cottage surrounded by a pleasantly riotous garden of night-scented tobacco plants, old-fashioned roses, lavender, fruit trees and a giant buddleia.

Step through its french doors and the fresh, sunny hideaway – decorated in cheerful shades of yellow and blue – charms you instantly.

Along one side of the living room is a kitchenette piled with supplies for a healthy breakfast – a crusty country loaf, quality muesli, free range eggs and bacon from the local butcher and apples fresh from the orchard. More immediately, a bottle of well-chilled sparkling wine awaits, and a creamy brie.

Along another wall is a bookshelf crammed with an eclectic assortment of reading matter – books on Venice and Provence and works by the serious moderns – V.S. Naipaul, John Pilger, Isaac Bashevis Singer and Graham Greene – most of the titles Carol and John have intended to read but not found the time to so. In one corner, a staircase spirals to a sunny loft with a couch perfectly placed to catch the late afternoon sun and distant water views. This is where a third person can sleep also.

There’s nothing in the least restrained about The Studio’s decor. Owner Carole Fitzgerald has filled her retreat with curios and the little house proclaims her talents as a decorator. Everywhere the eye settles on small vignettes – a collection of teddy bear cushions, a neat grouping of blue and white china, the old-fashioned hamper, thermos and tartan picnic rug sitting in one corner, ready for the call of duty.

A step up from the living room is a delightful bedroom with a white-painted iron bed and handmade chocolates on the pillow. A lace cloth decorates an antique pedal-powered Singer sewing machine, and sliding french doors open to the verandah. A staircase leads to a cosy loft bedroom for one.

In a garden behind the kitchen a hammock swings and a teak lounging chair is parked beneath a shady tree. The Studio is a refuge in the true sense of the word – quiet, calm and made for total relaxation.

The Barn Retreat:

Enjoy the luxury of The Barn, a stylish and spacious self-contained two-bedroom stone and timber retreat. The Barn has vast ocean views, with fabulous sunsets to be enjoyed from the spa, the sitting room and large deck.

A collection of furniture and lighting sourced by the owner adds character and warmth to the pale Swedish-influenced interior. The limed ceilings and oiled floors provide a perfect background for the soft greens, pinks and lilac used to decorate The Barn.

Tesselated tiles and antique pedestal basins feature in the second bathroom, and small-paned windows in the kitchen make it feel snug and cosy.

The kitchen has a microwave oven, fridge, frypan, plug-in cooktop and oven. A gorgeous range of colourful china adds to the delight of dining at The Barn.

A huge north-facing window seat in front of the wood heater makes a great spot to snuggle up with a book and a glass of local wine.

Like the Studio B&B, The Barn has a fabulous hamper of breakfast ingredients, champagne and homemade chocolates. *Note:The Barn is on the second level up two flights of stairs.
