Description

Located in the old village in the very centre of Olonzac, this charming three-story house Petite B&B Olonzac, with rooftop terrace, in a quiet market corner off the Hotel de Ville Square, has been tastefully decorated in modern style whilst incorporating french elements throughout. One can see the Tuesday markets take place from the double glazed windows of the property with its excellent location. Petite B&B Olonzac  is lovely and bright having windows on both sides and is exceptionally well maintained, being refurbished often since its many successful years of being the most popular rental property in Olonzac. It accommodates 2 easily with its simple layout, can sleep 4 within the 2 bedrooms (on separate levels) with 2 bathrooms, and has a comfy convertible couch should you need the extra guests. Maximum is still 4 guests for this home.

From the front door you enter a tiled hallway with the modern kitchen/dining room to the left. The kitchen is excellently equipped with dishwasher, microwave, oven, and a cooker. All basic kitchen products are supplied. There is a LCD flat screen TV to entertain whilst cooking. There is crockery, cutlery and seating ready for 4. To the right of the hallway is a separate toilet to the main bathroom upstairs, and also a utility room for storage of bikes or baggage.

Going up a spiral stairway to the 2nd floor, there is a very large double bedroom, bathroom with shower next door to the bedroom, and another separate toilet. There is a washing machine with powder supplied for your clothes.

On the 3rd floor, there is another bedroom opening up from the living room with a double bed and inbuilt wardrobe. The bright living room with a 2nd flat screen TV has a comfy corner couch that can be converted to another double bed should more bedding be required. There are additional chairs, satellite television (english spoken channels including the BBC), and DVD player. Doors lead from here onto a delightful rooftop terrace overlooking the village rooftops. Being completely private, one can sun bake here with all day sunshine. There is a BBQ, outdoor furniture and chairs to seat 4.

Comment: Easy and fast communication, Derek (the owner) is friendly guy. When we got to the apartment, vine and some pasta was waiting for us as a welcome gift (nice surprise). You have all the basic stuff you need in the kitchen (salt, sugar, oven, stove, microwave, washing machine etc...) and bathroom. All the rooms looks exactly like on the pictures (maybe better :) And having dinner on the beautiful terrace, with local vine and a sunset is magical. Once in a week there is a market just next to the apartment. With a rental car you can visit amazing places such as: Historical city Narbonne, amazing Peyrepertuse castle from 11th century or national parks ideal for hiking, canoeing, kayaking or just for a nice walk. I can also recommend you delicious cheeses, salami and off course variety of amazing vine.

Comment: Such a great experience choosing this cosy rental property. The owner has been nothing but most communicative and genuine person to deal with, he helped us with everything from restaurant tips to kayaking routes recommendations in nearby national parks. The house is super clean, cosy, well equipped and feels like home the second you step in (not to mention the welcome package including food and bottle of wine, thanks for that!). The open terrace overlooking rooftops of the charming Olonzac town was probably our favourite spot - true French experience - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Every Tuesday a buzzing market takes place just around the corner offering anything from gourmaine foods and wine to fresh veggies, fashion and gifts. Lovely cafés and restaurants few steps from the door. Can highly recommend this gorgeous place to couples, families or groups of friends of all ages. Merci beaucoup Derek! Can't wait to come back again!

Comment: This home represents to us the heart and soul of Rural France. We will continue to be back as it is the perfect place to experience the lifestyle of a small town/village with all the facilities and attractions of beautiful France. Located near the canal Du Midi and an easy drive to the larger Towns like Narbonne, Bezier etc., and not far to drive across the border into Spain. The south of France has so much to offer. The important aspects for us: Firstly with accommodation located in the middle of the town, the “Le Petit Castel” set up over 3 Floors with the top floor a great place to sit outside and overlook the village whilst experiencing local products not the least of which the high quality and very cheap local wines. The facility offers all the features you need presented in a clean an attractive manner…a Kitchen with all the equipment needed for preparing the local produce. Two separate Bedrooms and a good sized bathroom and most importantly a laundry with everything needed to make travelling enjoyable and lots more an easy walk to all the facilities along the cobbled streets to the main street where you can experience a wide selection of Food offerings. All of which for us were of exceptional quality. The people operating these eateries were extremely friendly making the experience for us all the more notable. The local market every Tuesday is not to be missed, not only the experience of trying to decide what to buy from all the local food on offer but engaging with the vendors as part of the experience. The market also offers much more than just food including Clothes, linen ,shoes and more. A truly memorable event and once a week. One more important issue for us was the host Derek who always made us feel welcome each time we visited. It was and is like coming home for us. There is no where we would frequented more around the world. Very Highly recommended.

Comment: The house is in a quiet rural village some three quarters of an hour by car from the city of Narbonne. It is well presented with good amenities. The area is surrounded by vineyards, wineries and has good access to the nearby mountains and the Mediterranean. Some people may find the quiet location not to their liking but it was exactly what we were looking for. The small spiral staircase would be daunting for some. We enjoyed it so much we hope to return in the bearish future.

About the Neighbourhood

Olonzac

Olonzac village, capital of the Minervois valley, is where the people from the surrounding villages come to socialise and shop. With a wonderful Tuesday market (biggest in the area) winding up the narrow streets to the heart of the ancient village displaying colourful goods and filled with the aromas of fresh foods and spices. The stall owners are a friendly group as are the town's people. The main economic activity here is wine and the town is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Flea markets and antique sales are regular events, there are four restaurants, four cafes/bars, three patisseries, two supermarkets and many other shops selling everything from flowers to newspapers, there is everything here to meet your needs. Professional services include a range of doctors, dentists and banks. There is an archeological museum, tourism office and wine co-operative to visit.  A magnificent lake, Lac de Jouarress, is only a few minutes away. Here you can fish, sunbathe, swim, windsurf, picnic or sail. There is also a restaurant and cafe overlooking the water. The picturesque rolling hills and vineyards provide a wonderful setting for cycling and walking. Relax in the warm Mediterranean Sea and sunbathe on golden sands just 30 minutes away, or discover an adventure in the snow-capped Pyrenees to the south.
