About your hosts:
Your hosts, Dominique and Erik, are in their early
sixties. Erik was born in Toulouse, he has lived in the Tarn area, and come
to Paris. He works as an interior designer. He knows Paris very well where
he travels most of the time with his bicycle. He loves the activities
related to arts such as drawings, visits to exhibitions, cinema, theater.
Dominique was born in Madagascar, she works in the medical field. She is very interested in photography, gardening, Tai Chi. She loves to visit exhibitions, goes very often to the cinema and theater. She will be able to help you to select your cultural visits.
Up to 2008, your hosts had a large experience in having foreign students at their home (U.S.A., Italy, China, Saint Domingue, United Kingdom). They wish to continue this opening on the world by welcoming tourists in Bed and Breakfast. In that respect, they have made some renovation in their house to be able to receive people with a better level of comfort.
Both your hosts speak English. Erik speaks a little Spanish.
From time to time, Lotfi, a neighbour who is a close friend of them and the nephew of M'zali who was the Prime Minister of Bourghiba, come to their home to help or replace them. He also speaks good English, as well as German and Japanese (he has lived in Japan for a few years before coming to France).
About your hosts home:
Your hosts' house (a two story building), surrounded by the neighbours' gardens, was built around 1890, probably at the same time as the building which separates it from the street.
From 1927, a famous French painter and decorer, the grand father of the present owner, lived there. His work can be seen in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and in the house where there are still some paintings and pieces of furniture. A brief history of his work and creations is presented to the visitors on panels hanged on the walls in the staircase leading to the second floor where his workshop was. Besides, it is this workshop which has been transformed into a "suite" for guests up to 2 or 3 people.
In addition to this "suite", your hosts are in the process of renovating
another guest room with a private shower room, on the first floor. For the
time being, you will always be the only guests.
The garden, quiet and welcoming, is equipped with garden furniture which is at your disposal to relax when the weather is fine. Your breakfast can be served there if you want.
On the ground floor, the main entry, reachable by a few steps, leads you directly to the living room and dining room, where breakfast will be usually served.
On the first floor, there is your hosts' bedroom, their private bathroom, a dressing room, a small office and the b&b second bedroom that is not yet completely renovated and may be used for child or friends joinings the party in the main b&b suite.
The second and last floor is the painter's workshop and the B&B guest suite offered. With a large height under ceiling and a glass roof, the bedroom and its private bathroom, is sunlit and completely private to the visitors staying in this suite.
About the Guest 2nd floor suite:
It is the most beautiful part of the house which is offered to you. It is approximately 50 square meters, and offers a large living room, a
bedroom and a "en suite" bathroom. Its location on the last floor of the house and its double opening on
gardens guaranty your privacy and complete quietness.
The bedroom, 14 square meters large, is equipped with two twin beds (210cm X 90cm) which can be transformed into one large king size double bed, two wardrobes and different pieces of furniture created by the above mentioned grand father: a chest of six drawers, two chairs, a lamp and, on the wall, a mirror, a painting representing a nude woman lying, a lithography representing two horses.
The bedding is made of cotton, the pillows and quilts are without feathers to be convenient for all the people, even suffering from allergies. There are two pillows with feathers in the closet, if you prefer them. The curtains are dark enough so that you will not be disturbed by the day light.
The ground is covered with an oak wooden floor, as old as the house.
Very quiet, its windows open on the garden, you will
only hear the songs of the birds.
Your private living room is full of charm: it is the former artist's workshop where Erik works from time to time when there is no visitor in the "suite".
It is equipped with a library with books about painting, paintings painted by the painter, a pedestal table and four chairs designed by the artist, a Eames armchair, a table on trestles and a chair, two easels, a high stool and a sofa 1,20 meter large and 1,90 meter long an extra bed for a thrid person, a carpet, a coffee table, small other pieces of furniture, lamps and a television.
You will also find a set for preparing warm drinks.
About the bathroom and toilet:
You will access your private bathroom by two steps through the
Its window opens on gardens at the back of the house.
It is equipped with a bath with a shower, a wash basin, toilets and a towels-dryer radiator.
Bath towels and bath products will be at your disposal, as wall as a hair dryer.
About breakfast service:
Breakfast is typically French. It is always made of warm drinks (coffee, mil;, tea, chocolate), french orange juice, fresh bread and croissants, butter, home made jams. Breakfast will be served in the dining room on the ground floor of the house, or in the garden, usually between 8.00 am and 10.00 am. Comment: “We felt at home there in a way I had not expected. We were included in their family life. Our apartment was beautiful with art books galore They helped with online bookings and Erik went with Lloyd to collect our car to drive on to the Loire. We couldn't have been happier. A huge, comfortable bed with pillows of varied sizes and softness, beautiful linen. Erik brought us tea early every morning and always offered it on our return each day. We were extremely comfortable and welcomed in their own private dining room and sitting room even though we had our own upstairs

Comment: "We loved our stay with Erik and Dominique and their cat Boubou. They were very welcoming and delightful hosts who offered to share their evening meals and drinks of an evening. I loved the house and the art was fabulous. Our room was superb, spotless with very comfortable bed. A lounge to come home to was a bonus. Breakfast was always ready, delicious fresh croissants, baguettes, pastries from the local boulangerie, freshly juice fresh brewed coffee & Dominiques homemade jams. On our last night they were gracious enough to allow some French friends of ours to join us in their garden for aperitifs. We had a lovely time and will have no hesitation in recommending this delightful B&B to friends and family. Hopefully will have the opportunity to stay again here. We were sad to leave it"

About the Neighbourhood
14ème - Montparnasse/Catacombs
Rue de la
Santé, the street where your B&B lives, has always had a very good reputation for its healthiness and its fresh air thanks to its quaint flowering lane ways and streets and its village like hilly neighbourhoods.
This street is on
the famous Denfert hill, part of the mythical Montparnasse district frequented by the likes of Hemingway, Stein and Sartre at cult cafes such as Le Dome and Les Closerie des Lilas. Today as was in the past,
there are many tisserands, dry cleaners, leather merchants, together with
vegetable gardeners and all the usual local cafes, brasseries, boulaangeries, patisseries, restaurants and nearby is the beautiful "Butte
aux Cailles" a 12 min walk away and an absolute MUST VISIT. It is gorgeous tranquil secret little hilly village (the next Montmartre). The Catacombes of Paris (9 min walk away) as well as the observatory (also 9 mins) and the Montsouris garden entry (11min walk) can be seen from the end of your street. Near the B&B, a little further down Boulevard Arago, there is the
"Flowered city" an area known for its workshops for artists (some times, if you are lucky, they are open to the public, ask your hosts about visiting them). To the North and only 5 minutes' on metro (or 20min walking) is theLuxembourg garden, the Latin Quarter is a 16min walk away reaching the famous oldest street in Paris Rue Mouffetard a long cobblestone pedestrian only open market with an abundance of classic old-world cafes, brasseries, gourmet shops and often with festive street performers. A 10min metro ride leads you to the seine river, the islands and Notre Dame Cathedral and an extra 5mins of metro reaches the trendy Marais village, the Louvre, Tuileries jardin, Palais Royal and more. All of Paris' highlights are easily accessible yet you will reside in residential tranquility and uniqueness.
